Eli was absolutely thrilled when Zoe made him this Beetle Bug from a book that she and I both love. It is called Softies: 22 Friends for You to Sew, Knit and Crochet. It has been around for a number of years (in fact, there is now at least one other book as a follow up - sort of a 'volume two'!), but I just haven't got around to posting about it.
If you are interested in making some softies with a bit of quirkiness, cuteness or originality then this is the book for you! It is exactly the type of book that public libraries love, so you probably don't even need to purchase your own copy!
The book is beautifully laid out and the instructions are very clear.
I hope to share some more projects from the book that we have enjoyed making, but for now this is Mad Dog that Jed made a few years ago. What do you think? So ugly he's cute?
I've seen that book around, I love that the softies are a bit different from the norm . Your Beetle bug is such a sweetie and Mad Dog is really cool, you can almost hear him growling in a playful way.
ReplyDeleteMe too - I love a bit of quirkiness! Nearly every project has been contributed by a different creator so the variety is fabulous. I loved this book from the moment I saw it, but loved it even more when one of the instructions discouraged exactness when tracing the pattern. I'm hoping we have years and years left of my kids getting excited over the prospect of making something from this book!
DeleteDefinitely ugly, in a very cool sort of way!!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes - that's what I think too!
DeleteHi Jeneta! My friend Lisa told me about your blog, I'm a new follower. I love to make quirky softies. :) Nice to *meet* you. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli. It's a pleasure to meet you - I LOVE your blog!! This is such a wonderful book for softies (actually, I am just about to return another great book to my local library called 'Hop Skip Jump: 20 Eco-Friendly Toys to Sew' by Fiona Dalton that I think you might like too!). I LOVE your 'Favourite Quilts' section!!
